2. Uso como auxiliar (to be = ser, estar)

to be genera los tiempos de la voz pasiva y los tiempos progresivos, incluyendo los suyos propios.

3. Uso como verbo principal (to be = ser, estar, existir)

to be se conjuga como el resto de los verbos (véase la conjugación general) exceptuando el presente simple y el pasado simple, ambos en la voz activa

 

I was in my new house, estuve en mi nueva casa

they are wonderful, son maravillosos

she's always on his mind, ella estaba siempre en su pensamiento

 

Las secuencias interrogativas y negativas de to be no se construyen con las formas del auxiliar to do.

 

4. Formas impersonales con there

Cuando se utiliza there como sujeto ficticio con los tiempos verbales en tercera persona de to be u otros verbos auxiliares, se realiza una traducción equivalente a las formas impersonales del verbo haber.
